Mechatronics engineer

Mechatronics engineers are a combination of mechanical and electrical engineers, reflecting the fact that more and more machines and plants have both mechanical and electronic components (e.g., ABS brakes, autopilots). This career path is relatively new and versatile. Mechatronics engineers work in the metal and electrical industries as well as in plant and mechanical engineering. They machine metal and plastic materials both manually and automatically, combine various materials, install electric subassemblies and programme mechatronic systems (e.g., bottling plants). They combine complex components to form machines and systems.

Prerequisites:

  • Candidates should possess an advanced technical certificate and should enjoy working with technology and electrical equipment, have good spatial perception and be willing to work in a team

Duration of training:

  • 3.5 years, intermediate exams prior to completion of 2nd year

Career perspectives:

  • Industrial foreman, trainer, mechanical engineer, precision engineer, following attendance at a technical secondary school and graduating from university with a degree in mechanical/electrical engineering
