Foundry mechanics prepare metal casting, produce moulds and monitor production plants, for instance to ensure the workpiece does not produce cracks or blisters after cooling down. They work according to construction drawings. Due to the various casting techniques, their job requires a range of specific knowledge.
Prerequisites:
- Candidates should possess a secondary education certificate and be interested in technical things, enjoy technical work and physical work with advanced technology and must be able to withstand heat.

- Hand-moulded castings
- Machine-moulded castings
- Die casting, gravity die casting
Duration of training:
- 3.5 years, intermediate exams prior to completion of 2nd year
Career perspectives:
- Trainer, foreman, engineer for casting or smelting technology, following attendance at a technical secondary school and graduating from university with a degree in smelting technology
